Diogo Jota has already become a firm fans’ favourite since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid on loan in the summer.

As one fan perceptively points out, it is an exciting time to be a Wolves supporter. Thanks to the financial muscle flexing of owners Fosun International and Jorge Mendes’ lengthy contact book, Molineux is now home to players that many clubs in the Premier League could only dream of.

And while the signing of Porto wonderkid Ruben Neves for a Championship record fee of £15.8 million, per the BBC, grabbed the most headlines over the summer, Atletico Madrid loanee Diogo Jota has been arguably the Championship’s standout star in 2017/18.

The Portuguese winger has thrilled his adoring public with his dynamic dribbling and lethal finishing, contributing six goals in 11 games as Wolves emerged as genuine promotion favourites.

You can understand the excitement, then, with the Express and Star reporting that Wolves are hoping to sign Jota on a permanent basis as early as the January transfer window. The report claims that Wolves have an option to buy the player who scored nine goals on loan at Porto in 2016/17 at the end of the current campaign.

However, Nuno’s high-flyers could push the deal forward, replicating the £13 million signing of Helder Costa from Benfica last winter.

With Jota in their ranks, Wolves could be a Premier League team before we know it.
