Aston Villa defender James Chester has been impressive in the Championship this season.

When Aston Villa tasked the Twittersphere to name a more consistent defender in the Championship this season than James Chester, fans of local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers did not wait to make their opinions head.
Welsh international Chester has been one of Aston Villa’s most impressive performers since his £7 million move from West Brom in the summer of 2016.
And there was a great deal of criticism from the claret and blue hordes when the one-time Manchester United youngster was omitted from the official Championship Team of the Season.

Wolves’ Willy Boly and Cardiff City’s Sol Bamba have stood out in 2017/18 – but it seemed a little harsh to omit Chester when he has even overshadowed John Terry at Villa Park.
But if there has been a more consistent defender in the Championship this season, then he is most definitely plying his trade a short way down the road at Molineux.
Boly, for example, can count 19 clean sheets from his 34 league starts in 2017/18. Conor Coady has been a revelation in a new centre-back role while the free signing Ryan Bennett has been superb too since arriving from Norwich City.

So while Chester has been impressive, don’t expect Wolves fans to admit that he has been out on his own this season.
