Paul Lambert’s reign as Wolves boss may have started with a disappointing stalemate against Preston but his decision to give Jack Price an overdue start in central midfield has already got the fans onside.

The combative midfielder has been out of action since limping out of September’s EFL Cup defeat to Newcastle United, with Walter Zenga preferring David Edwards, Prince Oniangue and Romain Saiss in a consistent midfield three.

However, Price has been a firm favourite of the Molineux matchgoers for quite some time, with his calm distribution and excellent concentration helping earn the affection from those from the terraces, if not in the dugout.

And, in a game of few clear cut chances, and only three shots on target apiece, Price’s performance in central midfield was enough to send the fans home with at least some semblance of satisfaction.

According to Wolves’ official Twitter account, the 23-year-old comfortably cruised to the club’s Man of the Match award with a colossal 48 per cent. The fact that the runner-up, Portuguese record signing Ivan Cavaleiro, managed only six minutes on the pitch speaks volumes about Lambert’s first game in the dugout.

And it’s fair to say the fans want to see more of the talented midfield man.
