Rafa Mir left Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers for a loan spell at Las Palmas and he cannot stop scoring.
Rafa Mir may be plying his trade away from Molineux right now but that does not mean Wolverhampton Wanderers have forgotten all about their January signing.
The Black Country club appeared to pull off a real coup when they landed the Spanish starlet from Valencia for a bargain fee of £1.7 million, beating La Liga giants and Champions League holders Real Madrid to his sought-after signature according to Super Deporte.
Mir struggled to make an impression however as Wolves cruised to the Championship title, playing just five minutes of football in two substitute appearances. And he returned to Spain in the summer, joining second tier Las Palmas on a season-long loan.
But Mir’s form in the Segunda has caught the eye. He has scored three goals in six starts for Las Palmas, before netting three times in two games for Spain’s U21s during the recent international break.
In quotes reported by the Birmingham Mail, Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell has had his say on Mir’s future.
“The plan was always to leave him for the full season,” Thelwell told a recent Fans’ Parliament meeting.
“Nuno thought he needed a good run at settling into a season but he has come to prominence through scoring so many goals and we are monitoring him closely.”
Mir will surely be seen as a long-term project for a Wolves side who are keen to establish themselves at the top of English football via intelligent recruitment and future planning.
With the likes of Ruben Neves, Adama Traore, Diogo Jota, Ruben Vinagre and Morgan Gibbs-White all under the age of 23, the future looks bright.
