Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City are just two Premier League sides reportedly keen on Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand.

Ryan Bertrand could be relegated from the Premier League this season with Southampton.

But if Wolverhampton Wanderers manage to swoop for the England international left-back this summer, it would still be exactly the kind of statement signing that the ambitious, Chinese funded Championship winners are keen to make.

And not just because Bertrand is one of the top flight’s most impressive attacking full-backs who has 19 England caps and a Champions League winner’s medal on his CV.

But because of the other clubs interested in signing him this summer.

The Express stated last week that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, managed by two of the most respected managers in England, are both keen on the £25 million-rated Bertrand and will battle Wolves for his signature.

This comes after The Sun claimed that Bertrand wants to leave St Mary’s regardless of whether they stave off relegation or not.

And The Telegraph is now stating that Bertrand has another admirer in the shape of Manchester City. Now, the chance to join England team-mates Kyle Walker, John Stones and Raheem Sterling at the Premier League champions will obviously appeal.

As will the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola, surely the greatest manager in the modern game and a coach renowned for turning players into genuinely world class footballers and eking out every drop of potential.

So if Bertrand starts next season wearing the gold of Wolves, Fosun and co could toast a job well done.
