Wolves are reportedly targeting one of Europe’s best in Fyodor Smolov

Russia captain Fyodor Smolov has reportedly been watched by Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of a potential £12million move.

There have not been many more prolific strikers in Europe over the last few seasons than Fyodor Smolov.

The Krasnodar front man might not produce the numbers of Cristiano Ronaldo or have the reputation of Robert Lewandowski, but the fact is that he has netted 63 goals in 98 games since the start of the 2015/16 season.

To make that tally even more impressive, Smolov had scored just 16 goals in the 155 games prior to his career-changing move to Krasnodar three years ago.

So reports in the Mail stating that Wolverhampton Wanderers are now keen to bring the Russia captain to England this summer should be of interest to the Molineux faithful.

A new number nine is a big priority for Wolves as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, particularly with permanent deals for loanees Leo Bonatini and Benik Afobe hanging in the balance.

The Mail states that Wolves, as well as Fulham, watched as Smolov took his seasonal tally to 15 with a double against Lokomotiv Moscow recently. Smolov, who speaks fluent English, is keen on a move this summer and Krasnodar will sell should Wolves put £12 million on the table.

Considering that their owners have around £60 billion in the back pocket, that is not a fee that will stretch Wolves’ summer budget.

And although Smolov is not exactly a household name in the Black Country, the fact that Wolves are targeting one of Europe’s most lethal strikers should speak volumes about the club’s ambition.
