Another day, another new transfer target linked with moneybags and Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Sun (May 9th, Goals pull-out page 7) reports that Wolves and West Ham are targeting Brazilian defender Rafael Toloi, who plays in Serie A with Atalanta.

Valued at around £15 million, Toloi has been an influential figure for the Bergamo-based club since he joined from Sao Paolo back in 2015. The 27-year-old helped Atalanta qualify for the Europa League last season and has been a key figure again this as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have once again punched above their weight.

And Toloi would be pretty much the perfect signing for Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

You see, Atalanta have perfected the three-man defence system that is so ingrained in Italian football. And it just so happens that Nuno employs very similar tactics at Molineux.

Toloi has made every one of his 30 Serie A appearances this season in the centre of a back three, his expert positional sense and ability to carry the ball out from the back with precision and class making him perfectly suited to the modern-day sweeper role.

It is a positon Toloi could easily take up at Wolves too, perhaps with Conor Coady and Willy Boly either side of him.

Transitioning from one league to another is never easy, but Toloi could feel right at home in Wolverhampton.
