The FC Twente powerhouse has recorded some impressive stats this season; something that will not have passed Koeman and Everton by.
As Southampton fans will attest having enjoyed the skill and dexterity of Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle’s unique blend of power and poise, Ronald Koeman knows what he is doing in the Dutch market.
And, as reported by De Gelderlander back in January, the Netherlands legend had cast an eye across his homeland once more, identifying the superbly-named Vitesse Arnhem dynamo Marvelous Nakamba as an astute, hard-working addition to his ever-improving Everton side.
The 23-year-old Zimbabwe international has proven an almighty hit at the eastern club, impressing with his purposeful, full-blooded performances in the centre of the park, although his all-action approach has manifested itself in a fair few bookings.
However, whether Koeman retains an interest after the signing of Morgan Schneiderlin and the irrepressible march of Tom Davies towards the first-team remains to be seen but, if Everton are intent on scouring the Eredivisie for affordable talent, perhaps they should cast their gaze 60 kilometres east.
South African enforcer Kamohelo Mokotjo was reportedly on Ajax’s radar after inspiring PEC Zwolle to victory against them in the Johan Cryuff Shield at the start of the 2014/15 and, since making the move to FC Twente instead, has established himself as one of the league’s most formidable midfield opponents.
Although that is not to say he is little more than a limited scrapper. An excellent passer with the ability to pierce an opposition back line, Mokotjo would offer the blend of work-rate and precision that Koeman demands of his midfielders.
Although, with Idrissa Gueye having returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, James McCarthy finding form once more and Mo Besic closing in on a return from injury, you’d wonder why Koeman reportedly wants a midfielder anyway.
