Aston Villa would be hard pressed to turn down another £25m offer for Jordan Amavi, especially if they sign the Paris Saint-Germain youngster.
When Aston Villa owner Tony Xia brazenly preached that he had dismissed a £25million offer from an unnamed Chinese Super League club for left-back Jordan Amavi, as reported by The Sun, he was greeted with roars of delight from supporters.
After all, Villa fans have grown accustomed to their key players jumping ship for calmer waters elsewhere; Fabian Delph, Ashley Young and Christian Benteke to name but a few.
However, with Steve Bruce’s side mired in a run of five defeats in six, suddenly the offer looks slightly more tempting, especially after Amavi’s defensive horror show in the 3-1 home defeat to Barnsley last week.
On that performance alone, Villa fans would snap your hands off for £2.5million.
And with the Birmingham Mail reporting that Amavi will consider his options at the end of the season amid reported interest from Marseille, it only makes sense that Villa would make long-term provisions for the France under-21 international’s eventual departure.
Neil Taylor, the January addition from Swansea, appears a solid and reliable stopgap but 20-year-old PSG prodigy Fode Ballo-Toure, who is out of contract at the end of the season and attracting interest from seemingly three quarters of the Premier League, appears a much more intriguing long-term replacement.
