Ajax-owned defender Mitchell Dijks nearly signed for Celtic in 2015 – and now is the perfect time to renew their interest with Norwich City circling.

In all likelihood, Celtic will be forced to go into the market for a left-back in the summer. And, before you ask, no that does not mean Kieran Tierney will put pen to paper with Manchester United.

As it stands, long-standing defender Emilio Izaguirre will depart in the summer upon the expiry of his contract although The Scottish Sun state that the Honduran is set for crunch talks with club chief’s in order to come to a decision about his future.

By that time, however, one of the stand out options to replace Izaguirre at Celtic Park could have committed his future elsewhere. According to De Telegraaf, Norwich City will attempt to sign on-loan Ajax defender Mitchell Dijks on a permanent basis in the summer.

The 24-year-old has impressed with his physical, no-nonsense approach since moving to Carrow Road, although that spilled over into a red card in last month’s draw with Blackburn Rovers.

However, according to the Eastern Daily Press, that does not necessarily mean he is guaranteed to stay. Dijks rejected a permanent offer before joining Norwich on loan in January, suggesting that he may not be convinced to sign on the dotted line.

And this may give Celtic some hope. According to The Express, The Bhoys were determined to sign the-then Willem II defender in the summer of 2015, only for Dijks to instead be cajoled by a return to the club where he started his career.

After falling out of favour at the Amsterdam ArenA, however, his future certainly appears to lie elsewhere. Though, with Norwich set to begin negotiations, Celtic will need to act fast if they want to finally coax Dijks to Glasgow.
