The Real Betis striker has struggled for goals this season and may find it difficult to fit into Tottenham Hotspur’s gameplan.
No one could be surprised to learn that a new goal-scorer is top of Tottenham Hotspur’s wishlist in the summer.
Although Vincent Janssen finally broke his duck from open play in last week’s FA Cup mauling of the Lions from Millwall, the fact that the profligate Dutchman is Spurs’ best bet with Harry Kane ruled out for a number of weeks is enough to make even ice-man Mauricio Pochettino shudder.
According to The Express, Janssen could be offloaded at the end of the season with Real Betis striker Antonio Sanabria, who rejected the chance to move to White Hart Lane in the summer, lined up to replace him.
Now the Paraguayan, who spent time in Barcelona’s academy and at AS Roma before returning to Spain with Sporting Gijon, is one of the most talented young poachers to come out of South America for many a season.
As demonstrated by his 11-goal haul at Sporting last season, Sanabria is a born poacher, a striker who comes alive in the penalty area and thrives on scrappy finishes and the odd tap in.
However, a disappointing debut campaign with Betis, culminating in just four strikes in 19 La Liga games, has shed light on just how ineffective the 21-year-old can be when he does not fit into the team’s style of play. He, like Janssen, may struggle to contribute to Tottenham’s overall build-up play.
That is not a problem Malaga forward Sandro Ramirez would have to worry about. Another former Barcelona youngster long-linked with Tottenham, The Mirror claimed in January that the Spaniard could be available for as little as £5.2 million in the summer thanks to his release clause, meaning he represents rare value for money in today’s market.
Sandro’s tally of seven has not exactly set the world alight with Malaga sleepwalking into a relegation battle but the 21-year-old is an excellent all-round forward, capable of dropping into wide areas and combining with team-mates.
He is a far more technical player than the one-dimensional Sanabria and would prove a better fit for Pochettino’s game plan.
