Everton boss Sam Allardyce should regret letting Ademola Lookman leave Goodison Park on loan – but the Premier League giants could repeat the trick.
Now, Everton manager Sam Allardyce did not want to loan out Ademola Lookman in the January transfer window – not to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig anyway.
Allardyce would have been more than happy for the former Charlton Athletic winger to join Derby County instead, per The Liverpool Echo, but the ‘stubborn’ youngster defied his boss and headed to Germany.
And Lookman’s impressive performances under Ralf Hasenhutl have made a mockery of the fact that he only played a smattering of Premier League minutes under Allardyce after he took over in November.
The 20-year-old shot to fame with a brilliant individual goal on his Leipzig debut, the winner in a 1-0 success at Borussia Monchengladbach, and while he has not scored or assisted since, Lookman has been showing the pace, unpredictability and creative output that a stodgy Everton side have lacked under their pragmatic gaffer.
So reports in Sportske Novosti that Allardyce could repeat the trick and send Nikola Vlasic away from Goodison Park next season suggests that the under-fire former England boss has not learned from his mistake.
The £10 million former Hadjuk Split forward, like Lookman, fell out of favour once Allardyce was appointed despite some lively contributions early in his Toffees career. The 20-year-old Croatian has not featured since January, a fact that has infuriated Everton fans.
On current form, Everton could do a lot worse than to give Vlasic a chance, particularly with Yannick Bolasie struggling to get back to his best.
But if the decision to loan out Lookman has backfired, it would make little sense to let Vlasic leave too.
