Premier League outfit West Ham United have asked fans to vote for their Signing of the Season – and put Hugill, Hart and Evra on the shortlist.

West Ham United really don’t help themselves at times.

It’s award time at the London Stadium and, in a tweet posted on The Hammers’ official Twitter account, the club are asking fans to vote for their ‘Signing of the Season’. Nothing wrong with that.

Marko Arnautovic has been in inspired form since his summer move from Stoke City and should be the runaway favourite while Javier Hernandez, Pablo Zabaleta and Inter Milan loanee Joao Mario have all had their moments and deserve a place on the shortlist.

But it’s the inclusion of a number of other candidates that has West Ham fans a little baffled.

Supporters, should they so wish, can vote for Joe Hart, the Manchester City-owned goalkeeper whose rapid decline has continued in startling fashion at West Ham. Just two days ago, he made a crucial mistake to gift Stoke City a goal in the 1-1 draw on Monday night.

36-year-old Patrice Evra, who was signed on a free after being sacked by Marseille for kicking a supporter, is also on the voting slip.

So too is 18-year-old Sead Haksabanovic, who has played just twice for the senior team all season, and Jordan Hugill – the £8 million signing from Preston who has managed a grand total of 22 minutes of football and, according to The Sun, could be sold this summer.

Jordan Hugill of West Ham United looks on prior to the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United at Amex Stadium on February 3, 2018 in Brighton, England.

In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better not to include the flops and the forgotten men in the ‘Signing of the Season’ shortlist.
