Bakary Sako has just six months left on his Crystal Palace contract, meaning a return to Molineux with Wolves should be under consideration.
Bakary Sako became Crystal Palace’s top scorer this season when he angled in the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Burnley at Selhurst Park.
In fact, that was the winger’s fourth goal in his last seven Premier League games, making him arguably the most improved player in Palace’s squad since Roy Hodgson replaced the floundering Frank de Boer at the helm.
But Sako’s new-found goal-scoring touch does not mean the Eagles will not go all out for a new striker this month.
Although a deal for West Ham’s Diafra Sakho has stalled, plenty of other forwards remain linked with a move to Selhurst Park. As such, the January window threatens to put the brakes on Sako’s revival at the worst possible time with his contract due to expire in just six months.
Former club Wolves should be watching the situation with a great deal of interest. As reported by the Express and Star, the Championship winners-elect have already started identifying targets who will help them in the Premier League next season; and who better than Sako to ease the transition?
Not only has the Malian remained a huge fan favourite at Molineux two-and-a-half years after his departure to Palace, he has proved himself in the Premier League over the last few weeks.
And if Palace see no future for Sako at Selhurst Park, Wolves should consider giving the winger, who has been reborn in a more central attacking role, a loving home.
