Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing for the Premier League by reportedly targeting Stoke City’s Joe Allen and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.

Ruben Neves, Barry Douglas, Diogo Jota and co might have hogged the headlines as Wolves swept all before them when cruising to the Championship title this season. But it would be unfair not to pay tribute to Romain Saiss.
The 28-year-old midfielder might not be one of Wolves’ most glamorous players and he certainly was not one of their most high-profile signings, but the Moroccan’s part in Wolves’ promotion party should not be understated.
Saiss started 37 Championship games this season, featuring in all but two matches overall, and some would argue he was the glue that held this free-flowing juggernaut together.

It was partly down to Saiss that Neves was able to dominate games from the centre of the park, given the licence to roam free in the knowledge that his tenacious partner was hoovering up the danger behind him.
But Wolves need to be ruthless this summer and there is no room for sentiment.
And reports in the Mirror that Wolves are genuinely interested in signing Yaya Toure on a free when his Manchester City contract expires is perhaps an indication of just how difficult it will be for Saiss to keep his place next season.

But if Saiss is a victim of Wolves’ success, he can consider himself very hard done by.
