Hearts refused to sell Jamie Walker to Rangers in January and it appears that St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan is now Pedro Caixnha’s priority.
Try as they might, Rangers could not convince Hearts to lower their valuation of star winger Jamie Walker in the summer. According to the Scottish Sun, Pedro Caixinha’s side made two bids for the 24-year-old but steadfastly refused to meet the Edinburgh clubs’ £1 million valuation.
The report adds that Rangers are still not ready to give in, however. Walker, who netted a career-best 15 goals in all competitions last season, will be a free agent in the summer so will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement in January.
Though the flurry of recent rumours linking The Light Blues with a move for one-time youth star Lewis Morgan may cast fresh doubt on whether Walker will ever make the move to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Record, Rangers and Old Firm rivals Celtic are interested in St Mirren’s in-form left winger, who has eight goals in 13 games in all competitions this season. Swansea City and Birmingham are also understood to be monitoring Morgan who, like Walker, is out of contract next summer.
One or the other?
Though that is not the only similarity the two goalscoring widemen share. Both are naturally left wingers, suggesting that there is only enough room in Rangers’ squad for one.
And it appears that Caixinha may now be prioritising Morgan, a player who began his career in Rangers’ youth system before being released and joining St Mirren in 2013.
One of the longest transfer sagas in Scottish football may have come to nothing so far with Walker remaining at Hearts until January. Though if Morgan returns to Rangers, you get the feeling that he has missed his chance to swap Tynecastle for Ibrox.
