West Bromwich Albion need strikers and could take a punt on Aleksandar Mitrovic, who Premier League rivals Newcastle United desperately want to sell.

Newcastle United are only too willing to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic this month, as long as they receive £15 million for the striker, according to the Sun.

Mitrovic has been out of favour on Tyneside ever since Rafa Benitez took over almost two years ago. And with the Magpies being forced to sell fringe players in order to raise funds for new additions, it appears that the Serb is ripe for the cull.

The Sun adds that West Brom are keen to hand the former Anderlecht striker a fresh start. But it remains to be seen whether they will be put off by Newcastle’s £15 million price tag with Financial Fair Play limiting the Baggies’ spending power this month.

The Express and Star claimed last week that West Brom could not afford Watford’s £20 million-rated Troy Deeney, so a deal for Mitrovic would eat up a substantial chunk of their January transfer budget.

But the Baggies are desperate for more firepower, having scored the third fewest goals in the Premier League this season. Their need for a new striker as soon as possible could convince them to take a punt on the famously unreliable Mitrovic.

And Newcastle will surely be laughing all the way to the bank if they actually receive a profit on a player they signed for £13 million back in 2015, as reported by the BBC.

Mitrovic, after all, has failed to start a single league game all season and his exit would give Benitez a much-needed boost to his transfer budget.
