Scottish Premiership giants Rangers need to get rid of the deadwood at Ibrox – with Eduardo Herrera the first to go.

Eduardo Herrera of Rangers celebrates after he scores his teams third goal during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

After 24 games and just two goals, Eduardo Herrera’s Rangers career looks over.

According to the Daily Record, Chivas USA have made an enquiry to bring the £1.5 million misfit back to Mexico at the end of the season and it is unlikely that Rangers will stand in their way.

Herrera, brought to Ibrox by Pedro Caixinha (below) last summer, has been a huge waste of money and current manager Graeme Murty hasn’t even played him in the league since the turn of the year.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, do not be surprised if the 29-year-old Mexican international striker is not the only player to bid farewell to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Rangers might have a better team now than at any point since their demotion to the fourth tier back in 2012 but the array of impressive, intelligent signings brought in by Murty and director of football Mark Allen in January have pushed the deadwood further down the pecking order.

Herrera is set to follow Carlos Pena back to Mexico but there are other players signed during Caixinha’s ill-fated reign that would not be missed either.

First of many?

The high-earning Bruno Alves has not lived up to his Portuguese international, European Championship winning billing and finds himself behind David Bates, Russell Martin and Ross McCrorie in Murty’s pecking order.

Bruno Alves of Rangers attempts an overhead kick during the Scottish Cup Quarter Final match between Rangers and Falkirk at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

And compatriot Fabio Cardoso could be heading out the door too. The £1.3 million centre-back made only his second appearance of 2018 when coming off the bench to replace the injured Bates in Sunday’s 3-2 Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic but struggled badly.

And the less said about Dalcio, the Benfica loanee who has played less than a minute of league football for Rangers, the better.

Allen and Murty have reinforced the squad effectively. Soon, the time will come to trim the fat.
