Gary Rowett worked with Blackburn Rovers defender Darragh Leninah for just a week at Burton Albion – and wants him at Derby County now.

Derby manager Gary Rowett looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Bristol City at the iPro Stadium on January 19, 2018 in Derby, England.

Almost four years on, it seems that Gary Rowett has unfinished business with Darragh Lenihan.

Back in October 2014, the talented Blackburn Rovers defender joined Rowett’s League Two high-flyers Burton Albion on a short-term loan. But, just a week later, The Brewers’ highly-rated manager left the Pirelli Stadium to take over at Birmingham City.

Though it seems that Rowett is keen to work with Lenihan again – and more for just a matter of days this time around.

The Sun (8th April, page 61) claims that the 44-year-old’s current club Derby County are keen to bring in Lenihan during the summer transfer window despite the fact he has barely featured this season due to metatarsal and spinal injuries.

Lenihan is still seen as one of the Football League’s brightest defensive prospects however and Derby would have to pay more than £4 million to bring the 24-year-old to Pride Park.

If Lenihan does make the move, at least he could be absolutely certain that he will be working with a manager who trusts in his talents.

Derby might have the third best defence in the Championship this season but long-serving skipper Richard Keogh has come under fire from supporters of late and hasn’t featured since that humiliating 4-1 home defeat to Sunderland, in which he gifted Ashley Fletcher the crucial second goal.
