Championship giants Nottingham Forest have already welcomed Costel Pantilimon to the City Ground but are seemingly bringing in Kapino, too.
Costel Pantilimon has been forced to get well acquainted with the substitutes’ bench over the last few years.
The giant goalkeeper has only made more than 20 league appearances in one of the last five seasons, the 2014/15 campaign at Sunderland, as he was little more than a back-up option at Manchester City, Watford and even during a loan spell at Deportivo between the summer and last month.
So Pantilimon should be a little concerned that history will repeat itself once again, with Sky Sports claiming that Nottingham Forest are set to sign the free agent Greek international Stefanos Kapino.
23-year-old Kapino fell out of favour at Olympiakos after a horror mistake in a September defeat to AEK Athens and, partly due to problems behind the scenes, was released at the end of the January transfer window.
And Kapino appears set to link up with Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis once again at his other club – Championship giants Nottingham Forest.
So Pantilimon’s status as Forest’s number one could be under threat after just one game. The 31-year-old ousted academy graduate Jordan Smith to start the 2-0 defeat away to Fulham at the weekend and hardly covered himself in glory, which is perhaps to be expected after struggling for game time over the last few years.
Kapino, however, is a younger, more agile and arguably better goalkeeper. Which means Forest boss Aitor Karanka has a tough, potentially ruthless decision to make already.
