Celtic-bound St Mirren star Lewis Morgan won the Championship Player of the Year award, a year after Hibernian’s John McGinn picked up the gong.

Lewis Morgan could hardly have produced a better audition as he plans for life at Celtic.

The Hoops beat a whole host of interested clubs to land the St Mirren winger back in January for a bargain fee of £300,000, allowing him to stay at the Paisley 2021 Stadium on loan until the end of the season.

And that decision certainly benefited all parties. Jack Ross’s St Mirren cruised to the Championship title with Morgan the inspiration, scoring 18 goals and assisting a further 13 in all competitions.

The 21-year-old left winger has now been rewarded with the PFA Championship Player of the Year award for his efforts. But could Celtic pair Morgan up with the player he took the award from this year?

According to the Sun (20 May, page 67) Celtic are still keen to sign the in-demand Hibernian midfielder John McGinn after a year of links.

It is understood that Hibs rate the 23-year-old Scotland international at £5 million.

McGinn won the 2017 Championship Player of the Year gong as he helped Hibs return to the top flight, where he adapted like a duck to water with six goals and eight assists for Neil Lennon’s side.

Morgan, then, will be hoping to follow in McGinn’s footsteps and prove he can do it at the top level, too. But could they be playing together for Celtic next season?
