Emerson Hyndman spent time on loan at Rangers in 2016/17 and the Hibernian man was also a reported target for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Emerson Hyndman has taken a while to get going since arriving on loan at Hibernian this summer from Bournemouth.

The American midfielder has started just two league games so far for Neil Lennon’s side but finally started to show some form in the midweek League Cup clash with Aberdeen.

Hyndman shone at Easter Road, helping Hibs outplay the visitors for long spells with his composure in possession and intelligent vision from the centre of the park.

“I felt that was the most comfortable I’ve felt in a game since I’ve been here,” Hyndman told the Edinburgh News.

“I felt like I was close to scoring a couple of times and I put some other players through. That was the first time I felt like I had created clear opportunities on a regular basis, so it’s something I can definitely build on.”

If Hyndman does indeed build on this, his return to form should not go unnoticed by the two Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers.

Hyndman spent the second half of last season on loan at Rangers after all, impressing initially under Mark Warburton and adding some much-needed cutting edge to a rather one-dimensional midfield.

Rangers look far stronger going forward these days under Steven Gerrard but Ovie Ejaria is only on loan from Liverpool, and Hyndman should be one of those identified as potential replacements for when he returns to Anfield.

Interestingly, Hyndman caught Celtic’s eye during his spell at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record. And, with Brendan Rodgers’ struggling side lacking fluidity and unpredictability in midfield, averaging just a goal per game so far, the Hoops should be watching Hyndman closely once again.
