Despite reported interest from Nottingham Forest, ex-Sporting Lisbon winger Daniel Podence moved to Greece with Olympiakos.
Daniel Podence will not be a Nottingham Forest player next season – or will he?
ZeroZero claimed in late June that Forest were in talks to sign the Portuguese U21 ace, who joined the likes of Rui Patricio and Bruno Fernandes in terminating his contract at Sporting Lisbon after a hugely tumultuous season at the Estadio Jose Alvalade which included players reportedly being attacked at the training ground and a very public spat with now departed president Bruno de Carvalho.
But instead of heading to the City Ground alongside fellow Portuguese starlets Gil Dias, Diogo Goncalves and Joao Carvalho, Podence has instead been confirmed as an Olympiakos player.
Forest have missed out then, right? Well, not necessarily.
The owner of Greek giants Olympiakos, Evangelos Marinakis, is also the man at the helm of Forest. And we have already seen an exchange of players between the two clubs.
Andreas Bouchalakis moved to Forest from the Piraeus club and back again in the space of a year without a transfer fee ever being revealed.
So Forest should not give up hope just yet.
If Olympiakos feel that Podence, who failed to score a single goal for Sporting last season, is not ready to play for one of the most expectant clubs in all of European football, do not be surprised to see him end up on loan at the City Ground.
This exchange of players worked well for Watford and it would make sense for Forest, too.
