‘Why not?’ Chris Sutton discusses whether Celtic should sign Yaya Toure

Scottish Premiership giants Celtic could be pulling off the greatest signing in their recent history if they landed Manchester City legend Yaya Toure.

Yaya Toure has bid farewell to Manchester City – and the £220,000 weekly wage that once made him the most highly-paid player in the history of English football.

So the chances of the legendary, three-time Premier League champion joining his older brother Kolo at Celtic this summer seem quite slim. The Scottish Premiership giants might be one of the most historic clubs in Europe but, unfortunately, their finances don’t match their rich history.

Nonetheless, former Celtic striker and outspoken pundit Chris Sutton is not so keen to rule out the prospect of Toure junior wearing green and white next season, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live.

When asked which clubs across the continent could appeal to one of the most talented midfielders of his generation, Sutton said; “Maybe Celtic. Why not?”

Kolo Toure is currently a coach at Celtic, working behind the scenes after spending the 2016/17 season at Parkhead in the final year of his playing career.

And, funnily enough, the former Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool defender had the same response as Sutton when asked whether his brother could join him in Glasgow.

Now, Yaya would bring a wealth of experience to a Celtic side desperate to push on in Europe and you could argue that he would be the first truly world class footballer to play his football in Scotland since Henrik Larsson.

But Celtic fans won’t need reminding that Toure would not have to look too hard to find a club willing to offer far bigger wages.
