Andrea Petagna was fantastic in Atalanta’s Europa League win against Everton last season, so the Toffees should beat Wolves to his signature.
Everton know just how impressive Andrea Petagna can be on his day.
It is not often a striker fails to score in a 3-0 win yet is still the best player on the pitch. But that was the case when Everton were thrashed by Atalanta in Bergamo during the Europa League group-stage last September.
The young Italian was on fire, bullying the experienced Phil Jagielka and providing excellent service for Atalanta’s on-rushing attackers with his intelligent hold-up play and outstanding upper body strength. Petagna capped a supreme display with two fabulous assists.
So why Everton are nowhere to be seen as Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly target the former AC Milan youngster, remains to be seen.
Tuttomercatoweb has reported that Wolves are interested in bringing the 23-year-old to the Premier League. Petagna is understood to be valued at just £9 million.
The Italian U23 ace is not the most prolific of strikers, he scored just four goals in 31 Serie A games last season, but he is about far more than goals. He is a throwback of a centre-forward who thrives when creating openings for others. He produced more assists (5) than goals in 2017/18.
And, with Everton boasting a number of players such as Theo Walcott and Gylfi Sigurdsson who would thrive playing off a target man like Petagna, Wolves should be facing some real competition for his signature.
