The Great Dane’s brace against Hull means he has netted four in his last five for Tottenham Hotspur.
It is no fluke that Tottenham Hotspur’s sudden return to form has coincided with the rejuvenation of Christian Eriksen.
The Danish midfielder had become something of an on-field scapegoat for a number of Spurs fans for his substandard performances this season, with the accusations that his levels had dropped considerably since inking a long-term deal only adding more fuel to the fire.

Missing during Spurs’ Champions League group stage exit and largely anonymous throughout a prolonged barren run in the Premier League that appears to have put pay to any dreams of a title challenge, it is difficult to dispel the argument that Eriksen had gone backwards, contributing less to the side now as a fully-fledged 24-year-old as he did when bursting onto the scene in his first season.
However, the last few weeks have sown the seeds for a resurgence. Excellent in Spurs’ pseudo-Europa League play-off against CSKA Moscow, the Dane was back to his visionary best, conducting the play from the centre of the park with his gorgeous flighted through balls.

That came just a few days after he helped put a sorry Swansea to the sword with two well taken finishes and, notwithstanding a below par defeat to Manchester United, Eriksen’s return to form continued with a masterclass of finishing and midfield drifting against Hull City on Wednesday.
Thumping home the first from Danny Rose’s cutback before ghosting in at the far post to seal the win in the second half, Eriksen has now scored five goals in his last six Premier League games, kick-started by that thumping drive in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

In fact, not since his debut season has he strung together such a prolonged goal-scoring run.
Between mid-March and mid-April 2014, Eriksen netted four times in five, including two in a dramatic 3-2 win against Southampton and a sublime strike against West Brom.
The goals are back in his game and so, by the looks of it, is the fun and the freedom.
