Long-standing Celtic target Charly Musonda hit out at his lack of opportunities before making his most substantial Premier League appearance on Saturday.

Just a matter of weeks after Charly Musonda wheeled away in celebration, his eyes and arms wide with elation after scoring on his full Chelsea debut against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup, the Belgian winger was in far less jovial mood.

Musonda seemingly hit out at the club on Instagram for his lack of opportunities, sparking suggestions that the 20-year-old could be on his way in January.

And, according to The Standard, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes he is not yet ready to challenge Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro and co for a first-team place at Stamford Bridge – regardless of his undoubted talent.

The Scotsman has now reported that Scottish champions Celtic could be tempted to renew their interest in a player manager Brendan Rodgers was close to signing for £5 million in the summer transfer window.

Special talent

Musonda, a natural-born winger blessed with dazzling technical ability and dribbling skills, is not your average academy hopeful. He is a cut above most in his age group and, thanks to a stunning loan spell at Real Betis in 2015/16, has already proven that he is ready for first-team football.

Rather than reprimand Musonda for his naïve remarks on social media, however, Conte responded by handing the youngster only his second, and longest, Premier League appearance just a few days later.

The Belgian youth international featured for the final 25 minutes of Chelsea’s shock defeat to a Crystal Palace team without a goal or a win to their name prior to Saturday’s 3pm kick-off. And though Musonda couldn’t turn around a humiliating result, the fact that Conte turned to him is an indication that he does rate him after all.

The best Celtic could hope for, then, is a short-term loan deal. Musonda will have to bide his time and show patience at Stamford Bridge but, clearly, he is a player Conte rates highly.
