Paul Dummett has been Newcastle United’s first choice left-back for years…but The Magpies could raid Serie A giants Roma for an upgrade.

Paul Dummett is the rarest of beasts at Newcastle United – a player who has emerged through their academy and cemented a place in the first-team.
How much longer the Welsh international remains The Magpies number one left back, however, remains to be seen. Because reports suggest that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is keen to enhance his backline in January, and put some overdue pressure on Dummett.
According to The Mail, Newcastle have all but sealed the signing of Chelsea starlet Kenedy on loan. The Brazilian Under-20 international is a winger by trade, but impressed when playing at left-back for The Blues during Guus Hiddink’s spell in charge back in 2015/16.

And Tuttomercatoweb reports that Newcastle could follow this up by making a club-record move for Roma’s Emerson Palmieri, another attack-minded Brazilian who is renowned for his aggressive raids down the left flank.
Emerson was a regular for Roma in Serie A last season, making 36 appearances, but is yet to feature in the league this time around after a long spell on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury.

It is understood that Newcastle will face competition from Liverpool for the 22-year-old’s signature. Despite Alvaro Moreno’s much improved performances at Anfield this season, the Spaniard remains a week link while Andrew Robertson has barely featured since moving from Hull City in the summer.
But if Newcastle pull off both deals, that could put the pressure on Dummett.
