West Ham United reportedly want a huge fee for Ashley Fletcher amid links with Huddersfield Town and Leeds United.

West Ham United hope to make a huge profit on Ashley Fletcher

After making just two Premier League starts in 2016/17, it seems a bit rich for West Ham United to demand £6 million for Ashley Fletcher this summer – 12 months after they paid Manchester United just £1 million for his signature.

Yet, The Sun claims that is how much reported suitors would need to sign the 21-year-old striker this summer after one disappointing campaign at the London Stadium.

Whether this puts newly-promoted Huddersfield Town off, however, remains to be seen. The Terriers need a reliable goalscorer ahead of a daunting return to the top flight after 45 years away but Fletcher’s tally of zero goals in 16 total appearances could make them think twice.

After all, German defender Christopher Schindler is the club’s current record signing at just £1.8 million, as reported by The Examiner.

And you wonder whether West Ham’s reported asking price will also prevent Leeds United from renewing their interest. According to the Daily Mail, The Whites were hoping to land Fletcher on loan in January and their failure to do so was mentioned in some quarters as a contributing factor in a late-season collapse which cost them a place in the Play-Offs.

Fletcher would surely have taken some of the strain off talismanic top scorer Chris Wood, after all.

However, signing Fletcher would make him the club’s most expensive transfer since the ill-fated £11 million arrival of Robbie Fowler from Liverpool in 2001, as reported by The Telegraph.

And with Fletcher only tallying 10 goals in his career, all but one coming on loan at Barnsley in League One, it is difficult to argue that the former Red Devil would be worthy of such a huge outlay.

Leeds could surely sign a proven Championship goalscorer for less.
