Jack Wilshere was missing for the first time in this Premier League season as West Ham United sealed a 3-1 win at Goodison Park on Sunday.
It hasn’t been the best couple of days for Jack Wilshere.
On Friday, The Times claimed that his arrival at West Ham United this summer had created something of a division between the owners and the club’s director of football, Mario Husillos. It is stated that David Sullivan only wanted to sign Wilshere on a one-year deal due to concerns over his fitness.
But Husillos and manager Manuel Pellegrini pushed for the former Arsenal man to be handed a three-year contract. And Wilshere’s subsequent difficult start to life at the London Stadium has left a ‘black mark’ against Husillos’ name, the Times add.
West Ham lost their first four Premier League games of 2018/19 with Wilshere in the starting XI. And it is no coincidence that they finally got some points on the board when the 26-year-old was unavailable due to an ankle injury.
The Hammers were very impressive as they beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park on Sunday. Pellegrini switched from a two to a three-man midfield and, ominously for Wilshere, Mark Noble looked far more at home with the energetic Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang alongside him.
Rice and Obiang were both superb on Merseyside, adding the dynamism that Wilshere seemed unable to provide in his first four games. Pellegrini looks to have stumbled across a winning formula that could leave Wilshere out in the cold already.
