West Ham United’s hopes of signing Antonio Valencia in the summer transfer window could be made clear within the next 24 hours or so.

The Sun reported earlier this month that the Hammers are keen to bring the long-serving Manchester United right-back to the London Stadium if Pablo Zabaleta decides this season will be his last.

But will Manchester United opt to keep a player who has been a fine servant for the club since he arrived from Wigan Athletic a decade ago? We are about to find out.

According to the Telegraph, United have until the end of Friday to decide whether to trigger the 12-month extension clause in Valencia’s contract.

If they decide not to, the Ecuadorian veteran will leave Old Trafford on a free when his deal runs out in July.

Tellingly, the 33-year-old has played just once since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho, coming against Newcastle United in January. Ashley Young and the highly-rated Diego Dalot are both ahead of him in the pecking order.

So it seems West Ham could be in luck.
