West Ham United left-back Arthur Masuaku is in demand – with Premier League rivals Spurs and Chelsea keen on a £20m summer deal.
Everton are already planning a bid to lure Aaron Cresswell to Goodison Park this summer, according to The Sun, and it seems that West Ham will have to try and fend off interest in both of their first-team left-backs.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been one of West Ham’s best performers in an inconsistent season with his marauding runs down the left earning him plenty of admiration. And though it is understood that he is happy at the London Stadium, Masuaku would find the prospect of Champions League football difficult to turn down.
And he would get that at Tottenham. The Sun claims that Spurs, along with Chelsea and Monaco, are all keen on a £20 million deal for Masuaku. The fleet-footed left-sider would likely replace Danny Rose in North London.
But if West Ham’s board are already under fire from supporters for perceived errors in recruitment, just imagine the furore if the club sold one of their star players and fans’ favourite to bitter local rivals Tottenham in the summer.
West Ham were promised that co-owners Davids Gold and Sullivan would take West Ham to the ‘next level’ but they remain a middle table side at best and relegation candidates at worst.
And if the club has genuine ambitious about pushing on and fighting for the European places, selling Masuaku to Tottenham is about as far away as you can get from making the right type of statement.
