Celta Vigo’s La Liga midfielder Nemanja Radoja reportedly wanted to move to the Premier League and West Ham United this summer.

Nemanja Radoja of Celta de Vigo looks on during the La Liga match between Celta de Vigo and Malaga at Balaidos Stadium on March 18, 2018 in Vigo, Spain.

Nemanja Radoja will stay with Celta Vigo until 2019. Not that the Serbian international appears to be too happy about that.

According to Marca, Radoja was desperate for a move to England this summer with West Ham understood to be at the front of the queue. In fact, the 25-year-old was so smitten with the prospect of Premier League football that he rejected all offers from elsewhere.

By the time the window shut, however, a move to the London Stadium had not materialised and Radoja was stuck in La Liga with Celta.

Though if he maintains the impressive form that has seen him become a key player at the Balaidos since 2014, there is no reason to believe that West Ham will not firm up their interest in January.

After all, Radoja has developed a reputation for being a strong, combative defensive midfielder – exactly the kind of snarling presence that a flimsy Hammers side have lacked under Manuel Pellegrini.

Jack Wilshere and Mark Noble simply don’t have the legs to protect the backline while Carlos Sanchez made a terrible first impression against Wolves before the international break, giving the ball away and enabling Adama Traore to score the last minute winner.

A player of Radoja’s ilk looks like a necessity already.
