Edin Dzeko could reportedly return to the Premier League with West Ham United keen.
Edin Dzeko has been open about his desire to return to the Premier League before it is too late this week. At the age of 32, the Bosnian is heading towards the Autumn of his career but reports in Italy on Wednesday suggest that West Ham could make his wish come true.
Calciomercato are claiming that West Ham are willing to pay £22 million to convince Roma to sell Dzeko in the January transfer window.
The London club will also make the 6ft 4ins target man one of their highest paid players and are also willing to offer him a director’s role in the future, given that Dzeko has recently obtained a degree in sports management.
Interestingly, this would see the former Wolfsburg man reunite with his one-time Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Now, the cynics will point out that Pellegrini was the man who sold Dzeko to Roma in 2015 but it must be pointed out that the centre-forward enjoyed the best spell of his City career under the Chilean tactician, scoring 26 goals in 2013/14.
“I feel different, better,” Dzeko said of working under Pellegrini on City TV (1 August 2013).
“The manager gives me more confidence and that is a good thing. I think that you can see that on the pitch, how I play and I feel different because of that, because someone who is important has trust in you.”
If there is one thing West Ham are perhaps lacking right now, it is a natural centre-forward of Dzeko’s ilk, although Marko Arnautovic has impressed in the number nine role.
Calciomercato reports that Roma could sell their main man in January in order to give more chances to the promising Patrick Schick.
