West Ham United wanted to re-call Robert Snodgrass from his loan at Championship giants Aston Villa but have now turned their attention to Middlesbrough.

It is fair to say Robert Snodgrass has not performed as consistently as Aston Villa fans would have liked this season.

But, on his day, the Scot is one of the Championship’s stand-out players, so the possibility of West Ham cutting short his loan spell at Villa Park has not gone down too well.

According to the Daily Record, West Ham manager David Moyes wants to bring Snodgrass back to the London Stadium in January. The winger, who failed to impress following his £10.2 million move from Hull City a year ago, was farmed out to Villa by Moyes’ predecessor Slaven Bilic but the fellow Scot obviously believes Snodgrass could be an important part of his squad.

But West Ham would need to pay £2 million to cut short Snodgrass’ loan and the Yorkshire Post casts further doubt on an early return to the London Stadium for the former Leeds United man.

Because it is understood that West Ham are keen to renew their interest in Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore. West Ham were close to signing the winger in the summer for £8 million and hope to finally seal a deal this month.

The report states that West Ham have already made contact with Boro about a deal for the jet-heeled 21-year-old.

So the signing of Traore, who had one frustrating season at Villa during 2015/16, should ease his former club’s fears about Snodgrass’s potential January exit.
