West Ham United and Brentford have joined the race for prolific Basel striker Albian Ajeti with Blick claiming that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are set to make a bid of £9 million before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Switzerland international was one of the most in-form strikers in Europe last season but it seems that his goalscoring exploits have gone under the radar.

Despite netting 22 times in all competitions for a Basel side who finished a distant second behind Young Boys in the Swiss Super League, it is only now that Ajeti is being linked with a move away from St Jakobs Park.

A West Ham side who have signed Sebastian Haller but lost Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez are apparently interested and are preparing a bid of £9 million – an offer that Basel would struggle to turn down.

Brentford, meanwhile, could use the money they will make from Neal Maupay’s sale to invest in Ajeti with West London Sport claiming that there is interest from Griffin Park.

So the ball is now in West Brom’s court.

According to the Express and Star, the Baggies have been in talks with Ajeti of late but his wage demands could apparently scupper a move to The Hawthorns.

Ajeti, however, is a natural-born goal-scorer. He is brilliant in the air and lethal anywhere in and around the penalty area. If West Brom want to be a Premier League team again, they simply must find room in the budget for Ajeti.
