Should West Ham offer £20m for Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic?

West Ham United tried to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from Newcastle United in January but no Premier League side was willing to pay more than £10m.

It seems that West Ham United could be back in pursuit of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Mirror claimed in the January transfer window that the Hammers had hoped to sign the striker from Newcastle United but failed to stump up the fee required to tempt Rafa Benitez’s side into a sale.

The Sun stated that no side was willing to pay more than £10 million for a player who had found himself well down the pecking order at Newcastle.

In the end, Newcastle loaned Mitrovic out to Championship side Fulham in order to get some game time under his belt. And he has been so impressive at Craven Cottage that West Ham appear to have renewed their interest with manager David Moyes present as Fulham beat Leeds United 2-0 on Tuesday night.

And Mitrovic, who is in the form of his life right now, scored again for the promotion-chasing high-flyers. That is eight goals in just nine starts for the Cottagers now.

But if West Ham were not willing to offer more than £10 million in January, they must be prepared to put double that fee on the table if they are to make a new attempt to sign the 23-year-old at the end of this season.

Because the Chronicle claims that Mitrovic’s stunning performances at Fulham have encouraged Newcastle to raise his price-tag to £20 million.

West Ham, then, must big bid or they will be met with a rather blunt response.
