West Ham have already made an approach to bring Fulham talisman Tom Cairney to the Premier League and it appears that a deal is now dead.

It seems increasingly unlikely that we will see Tom Cairney posing in the claret and blue of West Ham United before the end of the January transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, the Hammers had offered £15 million for the reigning EFL Player of the Year, only to be left stunned as London rivals Fulham slapped a £40 million price-tag on the head of their influential number ten.
The massive fee is more than likely an attempt to discourage a bid from West Ham rather than a reflection of Cairney’s true market value.

But the tactic will probably work, with just a few days remaining in the January transfer window and the time for negotiations restricted.
It appears very unlikely that a West Ham side who appear unwilling to break the bank this month will smash their transfer record for Cairney.
He might have scored ten and set up 13 in a mesmerising Fulham side last season but the once-capped Scotland international has never really proved himself in the Premier League. And that’s without mentioning the fact that Leander Dendoncker, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Allen (below) and co could be available for about half the price.

David Moyes’ search for a playmaker goes on and it appears Cairney is not the answer.
