But there is the added issue of a lack of consistency and a time-honoured tendency to disappear in the blink of an eye.

There is a reason Nasri, who looked world-class at Arsenal and won the Premier League with Manchester City, is playing for Antalyaspor at the age of 30.

So it should be no surprise that West Ham have fans are split down the middle by suggestions that the club has been offered the chance to bring this most enigmatic Frenchman back to England this month.

According to the Daily Mail, Nasri wants to leave Turkey just six months after joining from City and could be available in a bargain deal after appearing in only eight Super Lig games for Antalyaspor.
