Championship promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion reportedly want Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers and Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong.

So far, West Bromwich Albion have managed to keep most of their squad together and that might be down to the feel-good factor around The Hawthorns right now. It is not often a relegated side has such positive vibes but, with Darren Moore handed the reigns on a permanent basis, it seems the Baggies have renewed confidence that their stay in the Championship will be a short one.
It is still early in the window though and, at risk of tempering that optimism, there is still a very good chance that Gareth Barry and Jake Livermore could leave while James Morrison and Claudio Yacob are out of contract. PSG loanee Grzegorz Krychowiak has already gone.
One of Moore’s first tasks might be to put together a whole new central midfield partnership. But if West Brom can pull off deals for both Romaine Sawyers and Stuart Armstrong, they will have an engine room duo the rest of the league could only dream of.

Sawyers, who started his career at West Brom but never made the breakthrough, has shone at Brentford in recent seasons and is one of the most watchable midfielders in the Championship on his day. The Mail claims that West Brom are planning a £3.5 million bid to bring him back.

A deal will be difficult with some top flight sides allegdly interested but, like Sawyers, Armstrong would offer an exhilarating mix of boundless energy and creativity, inspiration and perspiration in equal measure.
Armstrong and Sawyers have the makings of a peerless central midfield combination; one that could provide the basis for a title tilt if West Brom get them both.
