Watford striker Troy Deeney is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs but West Bromwich Albion have made the first move.
The race to sign Troy Deeney is hotting up as the transfer window comes to a close.
The Watford striker is in high-demand this month with The Sun stating that West Ham, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are just three of the clubs hoping to lure the long-serving skipper away from Vicarage Road.
But it appears that West Brom have made the first move.
Because the Telegraph has stated that Alan Pardew’s Baggies have made a £16 million bid to sign Deeney before Wednesday’s transfer deadline. The manager has been backed by the club despite Financial Fair Play restrictions limiting The Baggies’ spending.
It is understood that Watford would rather not sell Deeney to a relegation rival, but may find it difficult to turn down such a substantial offer for a player who has only started eight Premier League games all season.
It will be interesting to see whether West Brom’s offer will spark a bidding war for the aggressive centre-forward.
West Ham and Newcastle are still in the market for centre-forwards but, with West Brom stuck in the Premier League relegation zone, they will not want to miss out to a club who could end up fighting them for top flight survival.
