Oldham Athletic’s George Edmundson is reportedly a target for Championship play-off semi-finalists West Bromwich Albion.

Oldham's George Edmundson celebrates opening the scoring during the Sky Bet League 2 match between Oldham Athletic and Swindon Town at Boundary Park, Oldham on Saturday 13th April 2019.

West Bromwich Albion are the latest side to express and interest in Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 21-year-old defender has come through the ranks at Boundary Park and has established himself as one of the Football League’s most coveted youngsters after playing all but one of the Latics’ 46 third-tier games in 2018/19.

The Mail claimed on Monday that Edmundson wants to test himself at the higher level with Championship clubs Preston North End, Hull City and Stoke interested. Sunderland and Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are keen too.

But you can now add West Brom into the mix. According to the Birmingham Mail, The Baggies have watched Edmundson on a number of occasions with Oldham apparently willing to listen to offers of just £500,000.

Interestingly, Oldham fans took to Twitter to suggest that the club should jump at the chance to sell Edmundson for a six-figure sum, some suggesting that he is vastly ‘overrated’.

Should West Brom win the race, the youngster will be tasked with improving a defender which has conceded over 60 goals in the Championship this season. Though with Rangers giving him a tour of their training ground last week, it seems the Glasgow giants are at the front of the queue right now, as reported by The Sun.
