Alan Pardew’s job at West Bromwich Albion is hanging by a thread with the Midlands side bottom of the Premier League.
On paper, Marco Silva’s Premier League career is hardly stellar.
His Hull City side were relegated from the top flight last season in a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, while Watford sacked him in January after a run of one win in 11 league games following a high-profile link with the vacant job at Everton.
West Bromwich Albion fans, then, could be understandably concerned by reports in the Sun that Silva has been lined up to replace the ailing Alan Pardew at The Hawthorns.
West Brom need a miracle as they are seven points adrift of safety with Pardew facing two games to save his job, against relegation rivals Huddersfield Town and Watford.
Appointing Silva would probably be the last roll of the dice for a side that had, until recently, been stable under the long-running reign of Tony Pulis.
But, as West Brom fans have alluded to on Twitter, Silva has shown more than enough in his spells at Hull and Watford to suggest he could at least bring about an improvement at the Baggies.
Hull looked doomed when Silva took over, after all, and he gave them real hope of avoiding the drop, while his Watford side played some of the league’s most exciting football at times, bloodying the noses of the big boys on a few occasions, too.
At this stage, however, surely anything is better than Pardew.
