Evans will be suspended against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds on Saturday but is hopeful their draw with Spurs offers hope.
West Brom defender Jonny Evans believes Liverpool employ a similar style of football to fellow Premier League pacesetters Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Baggies secured an impressive 1-1 draw with Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs last weekend (below) and will be hoping to follow that up with a similar scalp at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Unlike the star-studded Manchester City the week prior, Tony Pulis’ side were able to withstand Tottenham’s high-tempo approach at the Hawthorns.
That has given Evans’ hope that West Brom can prepare themselves adequately for a daunting clash with Jurgen Klopp’s ‘gegenpressing’ Liverpool.
“Liverpool are a good side, especially going forward,” the Northern Ireland international (below), who will be suspended for Saturday’s trip after accruing five bookings, told the Liverpool Echo.
“I think they’re like Tottenham in that respect so the lads got some good experience last weekend. They like to press from the front and take control of games.
“It will be a tough test.”
With Adam Lallana impressing off the bench on Monday and Georginio Wijnaldum (below) returning the training this week, Liverpool could be back to full strength with the previously sidelined duo forming an essential part of Klopp’s attacking transitions.
Consequently, the absence of the in-form Evans will surely prevent Pulis with an unwelcome selection headache as he looks to replicate the dramatic 2-2 draw between the two sides at Anfield last December.
