Darren Moore, the manager of Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion, is expecting big things from former Norwich City playmaker Hoolahan.

If West Bromwich Albion can get the best out of Wes Hoolahan, they will have one of the most talented attacking midfielders in the Championship on their books.

After a short trial period, the 36-year-old was offered a contract until January by The Baggies. This comes after he was released by Norwich City in the summer following a decade at the heart of the Canaries’ midfield.

And even in the autumn of his career, Hoolahan still has the quick feet and vision that makes him a joy to watch. And West Brom boss Moore is expecting big things between now and the New Year, claiming that the former Republic of Ireland international will be a ‘wonderful acquisition’.

“You’ve seen his close control and his cleverness,” Moore told the Express and Star of Hoolahan, who made his debut off the bench in the 4-2 midweek win against Bristol City.

“How to hold on to the ball, how to draw people in and maintain possession.

“Wes is a player that enjoys his football, you’ve seen an enthusiastic individual come on and at the grand age that Wes is, he’ll be a wonderful acquisition for us.”

West Brom have rapidly moved away from the pragmatism of Tony Pulis since Moore was appointed as the club’s permanent manager, bringing in former Belgium coach Graeme Jones as his assistant.

Only Peterborough United have scored as many goals as The Baggies in the Football League so far (20 in eight games) and Hoolahan will only add further creativity to an increasingly exciting side.
