Premier League strugglers Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are both interested in signing Danny Ings on loan from Liverpool.

West Brom’s hopes of signing Danny Ings on loan from Liverpool this month are hanging in the balance.

The Express and Star reported on Thursday that The Baggies were hoping to pull off a move to bring one of Ings or Liverpool team-mate Daniel Sturridge to The Hawthorns on a temporary deal, with the former Burnley front man the more likely addition due to his affordable salary.

But the report adds that a deal for Ings is in doubt with the Reds so far unwilling to sanction a deal. That could change before the end of the month, but West Brom need the stars to align before the 25-year-old is wearing a Baggies shirt.

It is understood by the Telegraph that Sturridge is negotiating an exit from Anfield this month. And Liverpool understandably do not want to let both of their back-up strikers leave at the same time.

Inter Milan and Sevilla are keen to take Sturridge on loan, but the Mirror states that the Reds would rather cash in with Sturridge on the market for £30 million.

So West Brom’s hopes of signing Ings could rest on a team being willing to pay £30 million for a striker who appears to be well past his best and has suffered a series of relentless and high-profile injuries over the last four years.

Newcastle United were also hoping to sign Ings this month with the Chronicle stating that manager Rafa Benitez has been looking at the 25-year-old since the summer.

The Magpies have struggled for goals all season, Joselu is their top scorer with just four, and have been forced into the loan market with owner Mike Ashley unwilling to pay for any permanent deals. Ings, then, was pretty much the ideal candidate.

But until Sturridge leaves Merseyside for good, Newcastle and West Brom may have to look elsewhere.
