Wes Morgan has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, but has been talking about Leicester City’s summer plans.

A report from The Sun back in May suggested that Newcastle were considering making a move for Leicester captain Wes Morgan as Rafa Benitez tries to build a squad capable of remaining in the Premier League.

Given the fact that Morgan was an integral part of the Foxes’ stunning title-winning campaign and that the Magpies are only just coming back up, it appeared that the move may have been an ambitious one on Newcastle’s part despite the 33-year-old’s age.

However, perhaps his latest comments, as reported by the Daily Mirror, regarding what he wants to see happen at the King Power Stadium this summer suggest that the door for a move could perhaps be opened slightly if the Foxes hierarchy ignore their skipper.

“I think we need to invest and recruit in the majority of positions,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.

“Towards the end of last season we saw a few injuries impact our results because we maybe didn’t have the same strength and depth as other teams.

“I think if you look at the average age of our back four we’re all above 30 now, so we’re not getting any younger.”

Leicester appeared to be in some danger of being relegated at one stage this past campaign, so Morgan may perhaps be concerned that the club could get carried away following their brilliant late season run and rest on their laurels when it comes to strengthening their ranks, which could prove especially costly with one of their key men Riyad Mahrez looking to leave (via BBC Sport).

Should they fail to make some marquee additions, then Morgan may feel that he wants to consider his options in case another team demonstrating more ambition makes a move.

And if Newcastle demonstrate their intent in the window by making some impressive signings and subsequently target a deal for Morgan, then perhaps he will find it difficult to stay put if his advice is ignored.
