The usurped Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham was tipped to leave the Scottish Premiership for Championship newcomers Blackburn Rovers.
Rangers now have three first-team goalkeepers competing for a single place in Steven Gerrard’s starting XI.
Allan McGregor has been the number one ever since returning to Ibrox from Hull City, featuring in every one of Gerrard’s six competitive games so far. And that has left both Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick in reserve.
And, after a mooted move away came to nothing on transfer deadline day, the Daily Record (live blog, 7.27pm) reports that Foderingham has been left in limbo.
The Express (page 54) reported on Thursday morning that the former Swindon goalkeeper was a target for Championship newcomers Blackburn Rovers, but a potential switch to Ewood Park did not come to fruition.
And the Record is stating that Foderingham now faces up to at least five months of being Rangers’ third-choice shot-stopper with McGregor and Alnwick higher in the pecking order.
This is quite the change for a man who was Rangers’ undisputed number one for the last three seasons.
So, if Foderingham is to play first-team football in the near future, he needs to either seal a permanent move abroad or a loan switch south of the border. Clubs in the English Football League can negotiate temporary deals until the end of the month.
And it seems that a move away from Ibrox is best for all parties.
