According to Record, the Hammers are one of the clubs interested in signing the Benfica striker this summer, along with Brighton and Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. But this begs a rather pertinent question; why?
After all, Seferovic is less a renowned goal-scorer, more a laughing stock among football’s hipster circles. This is a striker who has failed in Italy, Spain, Germany and Portugal and is derided by large sections of the Switzerland support for his less-than-stellar international record, too.
In total, Seferovic scored 22 goals in 138 games in spells at Fiorentina, Real Sociedad, Eintracht Frankfurt and Benfica. His career tally for club and country stands at 55 in 270 games; an average of almost one in five.
This should tell you why fans of West Ham are far from keen about a potential move for the 26-year-old, who Record believes has no future at Benfica after tumbling down the pecking order in his one and perhaps only season at the Estadio da Luz.
Seferovic has a release clause in his contract of around £52 million, although Benfica will surely let him go for much, much less. But even then West Ham should think twice.
