Burnley and Cardiff City reportedly want Rangers’ Josh Windass, while the Scottish Premiership giants are allegedly keen on Hibernian’s John McGinn.

One of the best young midfielders in Scottish football could reportedly be Steven Gerrard’s first signing as Rangers manager. But should the 37-year-old really make room for him by selling one of the biggest talents at Ibrox.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have entered the race to sign Hibernian talisman John McGinn this summer. The 23-year-old has been watched for a number of months now, although it would take a sizeable bid to convince Hibs to sell.

It is understood McGinn is valued at around £5 million, which would make him Rangers’ most expensive signing in 13 years.

But the Scottish Sun suggests it could be a case of one in, one out at Ibrox. Because it is understood that Gerrard would be tempted to cash in on Josh Windass this summer to raise funds for new signings.

Windass is valued at £3 million and is reportedly a target for Premier League duo Burnley and Cardiff City.

Windass is not the most popular player in Glasgow and has endured his fair share of criticism from supporters who have questioned his work rate since he arrived from Accrington Stanley in 2016.

But the 24-year-old has scored a very impressive 17 goals in 40 games this season and could only improve.

McGinn might be one of the most talented midfielders in Scotland but selling Windass to fund his addition would be the drawback in the deal.
